Bone Appetit!

August 26 is National Dog Day! This holiday was founded in 2004 to celebrate all that dogs do for us – both professionally alongside first responders and personally as service animals and companions. The holiday’s website also encourages people seeking a purebred dog to educate themselves on breeders and sources and advocates for adoption of your next furry best friend.

Our puppers are certainly a baker’s best friend! Many of our staff members have a dog in their family, and it is Ken and Peggy’s granddog named Rugger (Roo for short) that inspired our Roo-licious Dog Treats.

Our all-natural dog treats are licensed through the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection and meet the appropriate labeling requirements for pet food. That means you can feel confident that the treat you are giving your furry friend is not only made with love but also made responsibly. You’ll recognize each ingredient listed on our label, like whole wheat flour, peanut butter, applesauce, and honey – all things we humans can personally vouch for!

Since it’s August and temperatures are hot, your doggo might like something to cool them down. Here’s a recipe for Doggie Ice Cream recommended by our puppy friend Tippers.

Ingredients

3 ripe bananas, peeled
32 ounces plain yogurt
1 cup peanut butter

Steps

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Pour mixture into ice cube trays.
  4. Freeze for about two hours.

We know that with all the joy and love our dogs give us, they deserve to be celebrated every day. What is your favorite treat, toy, or activity for showing your dog they are cherished and appreciated? We’d love to hear from you!

Fresh from our oven to yours - happy baking!
